AstraZeneca Receives FDA Approval for Fasenra in Eosinophilic COPD

AstraZeneca today announced that the FDA has approved Fasenra (benralizumab) as an add-on maintenance treatment for adults with COPD and elevated blood eosinophil counts to reduce the risk of COPD exacerbations. In the Phase 3 RESOLUTE trial, Fasenra demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in the annualized rate of moderate or severe COPD exacerbations compared to placebo. Fasenra is an anti-IL-5 receptor alpha antibody that depletes eosinophils. This approval provides COPD patients with elevated eosinophils a new targeted treatment option.
