AstraZeneca Reports Positive Long-Term Data for Roxadustat in Anemia of Chronic Kidney Disease

AstraZeneca today presented long-term data from the roxadustat clinical development program showing that roxadustat maintains hemoglobin levels and reduces transfusion requirements in patients with anemia of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The pooled analysis of Phase 3 trials demonstrated that roxadustat maintained hemoglobin levels within the target range of 10-12 g/dL in over 70% of patients through 52 weeks. Roxadustat is an oral hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI) that stimulates erythropoiesis. These results support the long-term use of roxadustat as an alternative to erythropoiesis-stimulating agents in CKD patients.
