Novartis Announces Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON Trial Results for Pelacarsen in Cardiovascular Disease

Novartis reports Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON trial results for pelacarsen, an antisense oligonucleotide targeting lipoprotein(a), in patients with established cardiovascular disease.

Novartis today announced results from the Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON trial evaluating pelacarsen, an antisense oligonucleotide targeting lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], in patients with established cardiovascular disease and elevated Lp(a) levels. The trial did not meet its primary endpoint of reducing major adverse cardiovascular events compared to placebo. Despite achieving significant reductions in Lp(a) levels of approximately 80%, the cardiovascular event reduction did not reach statistical significance. Novartis will analyze the data to understand these results and determine next steps for the pelacarsen development program. The company remains committed to addressing elevated Lp(a) as a cardiovascular risk factor.
