Merck Announces Phase 3 IMPOWER-022 Trial Results for Islatravir in HIV Prevention
Merck reports Phase 3 IMPOWER-022 trial results evaluating monthly oral islatravir for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis in cisgender women.
Merck today announced results from the Phase 3 IMPOWER-022 trial evaluating monthly oral islatravir for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in cisgender women. The trial was stopped early due to a higher rate of HIV infections in the islatravir arm compared to the daily oral emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (F/TDF) arm. Merck is committed to understanding these results and continues to study islatravir in other formulations and combinations. The company remains dedicated to advancing HIV prevention options and is evaluating the data to determine next steps for the islatravir development program.
