Novartis Reports Phase 3 AZALEA-TIMI 71 Results for Abelacimab in Atrial Fibrillation

Novartis today announced results from the Phase 3 AZALEA-TIMI 71 trial evaluating abelacimab, a dual Factor XI/XIa inhibitor, versus rivaroxaban in patients with atrial fibrillation. Abelacimab demonstrated a statistically significant 67% reduction in major or clinically relevant non-major bleeding compared to rivaroxaban, while maintaining comparable stroke prevention. These results support the potential of Factor XI inhibition to provide effective anticoagulation with substantially reduced bleeding risk in atrial fibrillation patients.
