Novo Nordisk Receives FDA Approval for Ozempic to Reduce Kidney Disease Progression
Novo Nordisk announces FDA approval of Ozempic (semaglutide) to reduce the risk of kidney disease progression in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
Novo Nordisk today announced that the FDA has approved Ozempic (semaglutide) injection 1.0 mg to reduce the risk of kidney disease progression, kidney failure, and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The approval was based on results from the Phase 3 FLOW trial, which demonstrated a 24% reduction in the risk of the primary composite endpoint of major kidney disease events and cardiovascular death compared to placebo. This approval expands the therapeutic applications of semaglutide beyond glycemic control and cardiovascular risk reduction into kidney disease.
