Novo Nordisk Announces Ozempic Reduces Major Cardiovascular Events by 20% in SELECT Trial

Novo Nordisk reports SELECT trial results showing semaglutide 2.4 mg reduces major adverse cardiovascular events by 20% in overweight adults without diabetes.

Novo Nordisk today announced results from the SELECT cardiovascular outcomes trial showing that semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy) reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) by 20% compared to placebo in overweight or obese adults with established cardiovascular disease but without diabetes. The trial enrolled 17,604 patients and demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in the composite endpoint of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal stroke. These results led to FDA approval of Wegovy for reducing cardiovascular risk in appropriate patients. This landmark trial establishes semaglutide as a cardiovascular risk reduction therapy beyond its weight loss benefits.
