Eli Lilly and Company today announced results from the Phase 3 SURMOUNT-5 head-to-head trial comparing tirzepatide to semaglutide 2.4 mg in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related comorbidities. The trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating that tirzepatide achieved superior weight loss compared to semaglutide 2.4 mg. The mean weight reduction was 20.2% for tirzepatide versus 13.7% for semaglutide at 72 weeks.
