Eli Lilly Announces Positive Phase 3 SURPASS-CVOT Results for Tirzepatide in Type 2 Diabetes

Eli Lilly and Company today announced positive results from the Phase 3 SURPASS-CVOT trial evaluating tirzepatide in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease or high cardiovascular risk. The trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating a statistically significant reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) compared to dulaglutide. The hazard ratio for MACE was 0.85, representing a 15% reduction in cardiovascular risk. These results establish tirzepatide as a cardiovascular risk reduction therapy in type 2 diabetes. Lilly plans to submit regulatory applications for tirzepatide's cardiovascular indication.
