Gilead Announces Positive Results from PURPOSE 2 Trial of Lenacapavir for HIV Prevention

Gilead Sciences reports that twice-yearly lenacapavir demonstrated 96% efficacy in preventing HIV infection in cisgender men and gender-diverse individuals in PURPOSE 2.

Gilead Sciences today announced positive results from the Phase 3 PURPOSE 2 trial evaluating twice-yearly subcutaneous lenacapavir for HIV prevention in cisgender men, transgender women, transgender men, and gender-nonbinary individuals who have sex with partners assigned male at birth. Lenacapavir demonstrated 96% efficacy in preventing HIV infection compared to background incidence rate. These results, combined with the previously announced PURPOSE 1 trial results in cisgender women, support lenacapavir as a potential new standard of care for HIV prevention across diverse populations.
