Gilead Sciences Announces Positive PURPOSE 2 Trial Results for Lenacapavir HIV Prevention
Gilead Sciences reports positive Phase 3 PURPOSE 2 trial results showing twice-yearly lenacapavir provides superior HIV prevention vs daily oral PrEP in diverse populations.
Gilead Sciences today announced positive results from the Phase 3 PURPOSE 2 trial showing that twice-yearly subcutaneous injections of lenacapavir provide superior HIV prevention compared to daily oral emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (F/TDF) in a diverse population including cisgender men, transgender women, transgender men, and gender non-binary individuals. The trial demonstrated a 96% reduction in HIV incidence for lenacapavir compared to F/TDF. These results, combined with the PURPOSE 1 trial results, establish lenacapavir as a highly effective HIV prevention option across diverse populations. Gilead submitted regulatory applications for lenacapavir as PrEP based on these results.
