Novartis today announced positive results from a Phase 3 trial evaluating iptacopan in patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS). The trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in complete thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) response compared to placebo. Iptacopan is an oral proximal complement inhibitor targeting Factor B of the alternative complement pathway. aHUS is a rare, life-threatening complement-mediated disease. These results support regulatory submissions for iptacopan in aHUS, potentially providing patients with a new oral treatment option for this rare condition.
